Why get a quantitative EEG (QEEG) from us? Because we know how to use it to explain why you're having the problems you're having — on a brain level. We know how to make sense of it. And we know how to make it understandable to you.

Our assessment also includes a test of auditory and visual attention, a screening for binocular visual problems that can cause inattention and anxiety, and an understandable report by someone who is certified as competent to interpret QEEG by the International Quantitative EEG Certification Board.

Brain rhythms reflect the internal experience you're having

Our brains make electrical rhythms — oscillating electrical waves — that change depending on whether you're alert, relaxed, or sleepy. When you're awake but not paying focused attention, a certain pattern happens. When you're awake, focused, and interested in something, there is a very different pattern. There's even a common pattern that shows up when a person is depressed. This is different from the patterns — there are several — that happen when a person is anxious. QEEG measures and quantifies these different states and lets us and you see what is actually going on in your brain.

We record under conditions that matter

One really useful thing about a quantitative EEG the way we do it is that we record under resting conditions — eyes closed and eyes open — like most practitioners do. But we also record while you do a few simple tasks: reading, listening to something being read to you, writing a little, and drawing a house, tree, and a person. These tasks let us see what your brain does when you put some demand on it. That's when the most clinically useful patterns often emerge.

Decades of experience — not an automated report

We are all experienced clinicians who've worked with QEEG, biofeedback, neurofeedback, and cognitive behavior therapy for decades. We don't just use some automated report to determine what brain activity to train. We listen to what you say about the biggest difficulties you're having, then we examine the EEG and find the patterns that most likely are driving the problems or predisposing you to the struggle you're having. Those are the patterns we will then teach you to change.

We don't train you to be average

We don't believe that training everything toward the average value in a large population is the best way to do neurotherapy. We don't train you to be average. We teach skills that let you more voluntarily access states of motivated focused attention, calm relaxation, and even brain states that make it easier to fall asleep.

This is done with individualized treatment, which always includes cognitive behavior therapy. In fact neurotherapy is just one part of cognitive behavior therapy — the art and science of cultivating useful thinking, emotional states you enjoy, and behaviors (including the behavior of your brain) that work for you.
